LIVE PERFORMANCE
A discard Study, 2022
First performance at MTelus, Mutek, Montreal, 2022

The waste generated by people and their interaction with food constitutes the central theme of A Discard Study. As part of this unique performance, Mue and Katherine Melançon will eat various foods in order to create real-time sounds and visuals, which will then be transformed and layered over other images and sounds of food waste.

The projected images are created live: first we cut and peel the fruits and veg. We eat some. The peels are scanned live. For the first half of the performance, the actions are shown on the screen. The second half focuses on the visuals and the transitions between them. The “vj” of the visuals is the food: I moved a pH sensor from a vegetable to a fruit throughout the performance so that the images on the screens are changed.

Cutting, eating, scanning, sampling a pH: the images are selected and displayed.

Special thanks for Pierre Thirion (creative technologist)!
